Greetings, my name is Valerie. I am glad you are surfing this site and that you are interested in what our superior care respiratory company can do for you. My job here at Riverside Medical, is customer service representative. I have been in this position for 4 years. Prior to coming to RSM, I was employed with the Shelbyville Bedford County Chamber of Commerce for 13 wonderful years. I thought I wanted to retire, but the Lord had other plans for me. Because of my love of people and caring for their needs this door was opened for me at Riverside. I find my position here at Riverside to be challangeing, but very exciting. I learn something new everyday, and in doing that I can say that I am never bored. I enjoy the interaction with patients, doctors, and the crazy group of folks I work with.

Debbie Staggs, RRT
Clinical Manager
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about me. I am Debbie Staggs, the Respiratory Therapist for Riverside Medical, Inc. in the Jackson, TN office. I have been with Riverside since 2008. I was one of the fortunate few during our economy down turn that actually came out in the positive zone.
I worked in manufacturing from 1978 – 2007 and our company was starting to outsource product from China. Fortunately, I had a five year time frame to work with. Not knowing what I was going to do when our company closed, I started back to college. I took basic courses such as Art Appreciation, English, and Math that would be required for all degrees and not so hard for a non-traditional student to get back in the swing of studying and homework. During one of my classes an instructor from the Respiratory Dept. came in and gave a presentation about being a Respiratory Therapist. The enthusiasm and compassion she had for her part in patients lives made this sound interesting and exciting. I decided to go to the hospital and see what walking in a Respiratory Therapist shoes for a day would be like. There are no words to describe the feeling you get when you are such a vital part of a patient’s care and you see the patient improve. After many prayers about my future, I knew what I wanted to do.
I sent in an application to the Respiratory Dept. at Jackson State Community College in Jackson, TN and the next week was called for an interview. Within a few days I received a letter stating I had been accepted to the Respiratory program beginning in the 2006 fall semester. I was very excited; I was on my way to beginning my new career at the young age of 46. I had finally grown up and now I knew what I was going to be.
After many hours of class room lectures, long nights of studying, very challenging test and many answered prayers, the Lord and I graduated Summa Cum Laude (the greatest honor) with an Associate Degree in Respiratory Care. We received the Respiratory Care Technology Program 2008 Outstanding Academic Graduate award, Jackson State Community College 2008 Outstanding Allied Health Graduate award and a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Within a month of graduation we passed all three state boards and now hold credentials as a licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist.
Riverside Medical, Inc. was opening a new office in Jackson, TN and was gracious enough to extend me an offer to become a part of their family. I knew during the interview, this is where the Lord was leading me. The words, “Riverside Medical is a Christian based company” along with, “Patient first and everything else will fall in place” had my attention. This is just what I have been looking for my entire life. Compassion is not learned from a textbook, it only comes from the heart and Riverside Medical is a DME with compassion and heart. Once the decision was made and I became part of the family in June of 2008, every day has been blessed. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my new family for providing me with the tools to give each patient the care they deserve.
Everyday I get up and ask the Lord to use me to bless him. I go to the office or to each patient’s home with a happy heart and big smile because I know I am going to receive a blessing that day. The opportunity to be a part of so many people’s lives leaves my heart so excited. My prayer for the world is that this feeling could be shared by everyone, everyday.
My life is not a storybook fairy tale: however, I definitely got the “ Happily Ever After”.
Barbara Harris
Billing Coordinator
My name is Barbara Harris, and I am the biller/collector for Riverside Medical. I have been in the medical field for about twenty years, and in durable medical equipment for about fifteen years. I attended Northamption Community College in Pennsylvania and was granted a specialized diploma in the Medical Billing Specialist field in 2001. This was a diversified program that included medical reimbursement, anatomy, diagnostic and hcpc coding along with computer courses and other medical related topics. I really like this field and I really enjoy my job.
Loving your job is threefold. You have to love what you do, you have to love working with your patients and you have to love where you work. I am relatively new to Riverside Medical, but I have never been employed by a company so patient-oriented and caring. Riverside demonstrates what we all should be. Patient care is first, and always foremost. My part is to help the patient and Riverside to get through their health problems, meet their needs, and be fairly compensated. I’m here to do the billing, keep the insurance companies to their contracts, and assist our patients in making their obligations as painlessly as possible. If you have any questions or problems about your bill, please call me. We’re all in this together.
